This page shows how to connect the Claude desktop app to the Telivy MCP server. Custom connectors that you add by URL in Claude sign in with OAuth, which the Telivy MCP server does not support at the moment. Instead, Claude Desktop starts a small local program, mcp-remote, which runs on your computer, adds the x-api-key header, and forwards Claude’s requests to https://api-v1.telivy.com/mcp.

Prerequisites

Set up the connection

1

Open the configuration file

In Claude Desktop, open Settings from the Claude menu in the system menu bar (not the settings inside the chat window), select the Developer tab and click Edit Config. This opens claude_desktop_config.json, which lives at:
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
2

Add the Telivy server

Add a telivy entry under mcpServers. If the file already has other servers, add telivy next to them inside the same mcpServers object.
Replace your-telivy-api-key with your key. Keep x-api-key:${TELIVY_API_KEY} exactly as written, with no space after the colon: Claude Desktop on Windows does not pass spaces inside args correctly, and mcp-remote fills in ${TELIVY_API_KEY} from the env block when it starts.
3

Restart Claude Desktop

Save the file, then quit Claude Desktop completely (closing the window is not enough) and open it again. Claude Desktop starts mcp-remote when it launches.

Keep the key out of shared files

With this setup the key is stored in claude_desktop_config.json on your computer and is passed to mcp-remote as an environment variable, so it does not appear in the list of running processes. Do not copy this file to a shared drive or a repository with the key in it. If you share the configuration with colleagues, share it with the placeholder your-telivy-api-key and have each person fill in the key on their own computer.

Verify the connection

In a new chat, click the + button (Add files, connectors, and more) in the bottom-left corner of the message box, move to Connectors and click Manage connectors. Select telivy to see the Telivy tools. If telivy is missing or shows an error, check the logs in ~/Library/Logs/Claude on macOS or %APPDATA%\Claude\logs on Windows. mcp.log records connection failures, and mcp-server-telivy.log contains the output of mcp-remote, including 401 responses from Telivy when the key is wrong. See also Troubleshooting.

Approvals

Claude Desktop asks for your approval before it runs a tool from a connected server. Read the tool name and arguments in each request. Choose Always allow only for Telivy tools that read data, and approve tools that create, update, rescan or uninstall something one call at a time.

Try it

Start a new chat and send a prompt such as:
For more prompts, see Example workflows.

Remove the server

Open the configuration file again through Settings → Developer → Edit Config, delete the telivy entry from mcpServers, save the file and restart Claude Desktop.
