This page shows how to add the Telivy MCP server to Cursor. Cursor connects to remote MCP servers over HTTP and sends the headers you define in its mcp.json file, so it can connect to Telivy directly.

Prerequisites

Store the key in an environment variable

The configuration below reads the key from an environment variable named TELIVY_API_KEY, so the key does not appear in mcp.json.
Add this line to your shell profile (for example ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc):
On macOS, Cursor reads your shell profile only when you start it from a terminal. Quit Cursor and start it from a new terminal with cursor ., or set the variable for the whole system.

Add the server

1

Open the configuration file

Create or open one of these files:
  • ~/.cursor/mcp.json in your home folder makes Telivy available in every project.
  • .cursor/mcp.json in a project makes it available in that project only. Because the file contains only the variable name, it can be committed and shared, and each person sets TELIVY_API_KEY on their own computer.
2

Add the Telivy entry

If the file already lists other servers, add telivy next to them inside mcpServers. Cursor replaces ${env:TELIVY_API_KEY} with the value of the environment variable when it loads the server.
3

Save and reload

Save the file. If the server does not appear, restart Cursor.

Verify the connection

Open Customize in Cursor and find telivy in the list of MCP servers. Make sure its toggle is on. If it shows an error, open the Output panel (Cmd+Shift+U on macOS, Ctrl+Shift+U on Windows), choose MCP Logs, and look for a 401 response, which means the key was missing or wrong. See also Troubleshooting.

Approvals

Cursor asks for approval before it uses an MCP tool by default, and you can expand the request to see the tool’s arguments. Keep that default for Telivy tools that create, update, rescan or uninstall something. If your team uses an allowlist so that some MCP tools run without approval, add only Telivy tools that read data to it.

Try it

Open the Agent chat and send a prompt such as:
For more prompts, see Example workflows.

Remove the server

Remove telivy from Customize, or delete the telivy entry from the mcp.json file where you added it. To keep the configuration but stop using it, turn its toggle off in Customize; disabled servers do not load or appear in chat.
