This page shows how to add the Telivy MCP server to Windsurf. In June 2026 Windsurf was renamed Devin Desktop, and its default agent became Devin Local, with the older Cascade agent kept for existing conversations. The MCP configuration described here is the one the Devin Desktop documentation and the Devin CLI documentation give for remote HTTP servers.

Prerequisites

Store the key in an environment variable

The configuration below reads the key from an environment variable named TELIVY_API_KEY, so the key does not appear in the configuration file. If the variable is not set, Devin Desktop sends an empty header and Telivy answers with 401.
Add this line to your shell profile (for example ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc):
On macOS, a desktop application started from the Dock does not read your shell profile. Quit Devin Desktop and start it from a new terminal, or set the variable for the whole system.

Add the server

1

Open the MCP configuration file

The user-level MCP configuration file is at:
  • macOS and Linux: ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json
You can also open it from the app: click the … (Actions) menu at the top right of the agent panel and click Open MCP config file in the MCPs section.
2

Add the Telivy entry

If the file already lists other servers, add telivy next to them inside mcpServers. Older Windsurf examples use serverUrl instead of url; the Cascade agent accepts either field, and the Devin CLI configuration documents url. Devin Desktop replaces ${env:TELIVY_API_KEY} with the value of the environment variable when it loads the server.
3

Save the file

Save the file and restart Devin Desktop so it loads the new server.
To share the configuration with a project instead, put the same telivy entry in .devin/mcp_config.json in the repository. The file contains only the variable name, so it can be committed, and each person sets TELIVY_API_KEY on their own computer.

Verify the connection

Open the … menu in the agent panel. The MCPs section lists each configured server and how many of its tools are enabled; telivy should appear with its tools. You can also ask the agent to list the MCP servers and tools it has. If the tool count is zero or the server shows an error, see Troubleshooting. The agent can use at most 100 tools across all MCP servers at once. If you have several servers connected and Telivy tools are missing, turn off servers or tools you do not need.

Approvals

By default the Devin Local agent asks for approval before it calls any MCP tool, and lets you allow a single tool or every tool on a server, for the session or permanently. For Telivy, allow only tools that read data, and approve tools that create, update, rescan or uninstall something one call at a time. Do not allow every tool on the telivy server.

Try it

Send the agent a prompt such as:
For more prompts, see Example workflows.

Remove the server

To turn Telivy off without deleting the configuration, use the toggle next to telivy in the MCPs section. To remove it, delete the telivy entry from mcp_config.json and restart Devin Desktop.
